A PARENT’S STORY
Hi, I’m Christina and do you have teenagers that are getting ready to drive?
My husband and I just went through a very scary time with our daughter after only five hours on the road
with a driving school instructor.
We decided to help her to practice on our own car. I was petrified the first time we got in the car and so was she. We tried staying in residential areas but we almost run through a bin and we came very close to hitting a couple of parked cars. I started yelling at her because I was so nervous and scared and she started yelling back because she was so nervous. Our session in the car came to a close quickly. My husband took a turn but his results were the same. We tried to discuss it later, but the bottom line was She was afraid she was going to crash our car and I was scared to death that we were going to be injured or that we were going to injure someone else. We were at a crossroad. We had no way to protect ourselves if our daughter made a fatal error.
We have to expose them to much tougher conditions so that out there in the real world they will survive. But we as parents have no formal training and no way to stop the car. It’s crazy. How are we supposed to give them hands on experience and protect the situation and not become a statistic. And then someone told us about Learnerbrake.
I was like, does something like this really exist and can we put one in our car? So we contacted the company. Come to find out they’ve been helping parents teach their teens to drive for 20 years.
I told my husband if this avoids one accident it more than Pays for itself.
Decided to rent one and had it. Installed by one of their local mechanics, he said it was so easy to install and they have a video of the installation on their website. It’s cable operated so that it doesn’t interfere with your vehicles internal brake system and you can remove it in one minute.
Oh my gosh, we were so relieved. My daughter and I went from residential areas to country roads.
Intersections to dual carriageways, on and off ramps and busy city areas and so much more. I was able to
stop or slow down the car when necessary and teach her without fear. I exposed her to situations on the
road that I never would have been able to do safely without the protection of Learnerbreak. We drove
around for hours and talked and laughed. We never spent this much time together and had so much fun.
We learned a lot about one another. Our relation has become much stronger and she has become a very
good driver.
I don’t know what else to say, except that if you want to expose your teen to the toughest
driving conditions. Make them a much safer driver and do it without putting yourself or your child at
serious risk then this Learnerbrake is the answer.
